Welcome to the home of CLUB SODA’S COURSES TO CHANGE YOUR DRINKING

Happy new you

Christmas with Club Soda Happy new you

Over the last couple of months, we have hopefully got to know one another a little better. And what we see, at Club Soda HQ, is how wonderful you all are. Funny, intelligent, caring and strong.

And this isn’t us sucking up. We don’t say this to boost your morale. We say it because it is true.

You are not a perfect person, because no one is. You have flaws, and like everyone does, you have had one big factor that held you back – a relationship with alcohol that hides your best qualities:

  • Making you act in ways that feel contradictory
  • Sapping your energy so your ambitions feel so much harder to achieve
  • Dulling your strengths
  • Making you question who you really are.

We know endings are difficult, and this course coming to an end could be a trigger for you. But if you’re feeling the temptation to go back to drinking right now, please don’t. This is your life. And you are in charge of how this all plays out.

Life that’s worth living – Laura’s reflections on changing her drinking

When I talk to people about changing my drinking, I tell them I feel like the person I was when I was 20. I don’t mean that I feel younger and fitter. I mean I have reconnected with my values, and my sense of ambition (even if the nature of that ambition has changed). I feel like the person I was before my every waking moment was absorbed by planning to go out drinking, drinking, recovering from drinking and then regretting drinking. What a waste of time.

It may take a while for you to feel like the real you again. But this journey you are on is worth the effort. There is something to find at the end: yourself.

Occasionally, when I am feeling sad or anxious (yes that still happens even when you’ve sorted out your drinking) I want to shake my partner who has never known me as pissed Laura and say, “You know this is temporary. I am in reality a horrible, lazy person. I will ruin everything. You should steer clear.”

And that is when I know I don’t want this version of me to be temporary. I don’t want the old me back. The discomfort and effort have been worth it. My new life is worth protecting.

I share this with you, because this is the hindsight I wish I had access to when I went through those dark days.

I have written about my values often. You can read my full article about reconnecting with my values here.

What’s next?

Who knows what this year will bring us. But let’s be the best version of ourselves in it. Use the New Year WOOP in the last lesson, if that helps focus your thoughts.

Whatever else you do, stay close to the Club Soda community. You’re welcome to hang around with us for as long as it’s helpful to you. And if you want to dive into another course, we’d love to share more of your journey with you. We are here all year round.

All of us here at Club Soda have really enjoyed supporting you during the holidays. Do get in touch and let us know if there is anything else that would be useful for you.

Take good care of yourself, and keep in touch.

Cheers!
