Welcome to the home of CLUB SODA’S COURSES TO CHANGE YOUR DRINKING

Noticing in practice, and informing your WOOPs

For this exercise, we’re going to go back to your first WOOP, and the things you did and did not enjoy about past holiday seasons. We’ll come back to this in a bit more depth later, but for now we can pretty much say lots of the things we do over the holidays are things we do, in the way we do, because that’s the way we’ve always done them. There might be exceptions, changes come when different people move in and out of our lives, when we’re in different places, but for now let’s start with the premise we do things because broadly speaking those are our traditions.

This holiday season you need to delve deep and discover whether all of your traditions are real, convenient self-myths you use to enable your drinking, or even necessary. You need to be firm with yourself when consciously question your drinking routines, so that you have all the evidence you need to challenge your inner critic when it rears its head later on.

So, here is what to do:

  1. Take some time, because this exercise could include research.
  2. Look back at the results emailed to you from the last exercise you did. Remind yourself of what you enjoyed and what you did not enjoy about past holidays.
  3. Start thinking about all the things you normally do over the holiday season, the people, the events, the things you always buy.
  4. Put them in two groups: the ones you can change; and the ones you will need to have strategies to cope with.
  5. Looking at the ones you can change (we’ll look in more detail at things you will need strategies for later in the course), start thinking about new traditions. If you’re stuck, head over to Telegram to share your ideas and suggestions.
