Welcome to the home of CLUB SODA’S COURSES TO CHANGE YOUR DRINKING

Choose your attitudes

In the holiday season, a big part of being honest about our drinking may be noticing the ways we legitimise unnecessary drinking.

  • It’s the holidays, I’m supposed to be partying and having fun!
  • It’s thanksgiving, of course I can let my hair down a bit!

These moments of honest self-reflection can feel very uncomfortable, so it is important to remember to combine our honesty with bravery and kindness towards ourselves.

Actively choosing your attitudes involves reshaping your thought processes. You’ll begin to experience the world a different way, so don’t be surprised if it feels awkward at the start. Choosing your attitudes takes daily practice at first, but it will get easier over time.

Honesty, bravery and self-kindness are especially helpful because they foster a deepening sense of self-acceptance. As you practise these attitudes, you accept yourself with all your strengths and positive attributes as well as all your faults and failings. You learn to live with your imperfections, your cracks, and your blemishes. You might even find ways to accept even those things about yourself that you actively dislike.

Over the coming days, begin to pay attention to your default settings. Notice your attitudes. If you get a chance to be honest, brave or kind to yourself, take it. And see if these new attitudes make a difference for you.
