Welcome to the home of CLUB SODA’S COURSES TO CHANGE YOUR DRINKING

Introduction

Certain cues in our environment can create small (or large) cravings for alcohol because they remind us about alcohol and drinking. We know the holiday season will be even worse as there will be more parties, more adverts and a whole hospitality industry inviting us in.

Don’t underestimate the power of small sensory cues that can lead to thoughts and then cravings for alcohol. They may be your normal day to day things such as craving alcohol when you see people on TV drinking – like cookery shows or soap operas. Even the sound of a ring-pull opening or the smell of alcohol can set off a niggly urge. During the holiday season, everything is designed to activate your sensory queues – music, tastes, smells, sounds… And those activations can seem like they’re everywhere, steeping the world around you in drinking culture.

There will be something you had forgotten about. The smell of mulled wine or just the lingering taste of brandy in everything.

And we may also have to plan for occasions where we might have to spend time in an environment that makes us feel uncomfortable, like the house of a relative we don’t get on with so well, or a busy, loud bar.
